ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Djirra supports Aboriginal women’s journey to safety and well-being, provides legal and practical support to Aboriginal women experiencing family violence across Victoria, and amplifies the voices of Aboriginal women through our advocacy and policy reform work. Djirra also auspices the secretariat for the National Family Violence Prevention & Legal Services (FVPLS) Forum. Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with a rich history established over 15 years ago.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Full time & permanent
Reporting to the General Manager, you will work closely with our CEO supporting her high profile state and national advocacy, and will manage Djirra’s influencing, policy, law reform and campaigning work. You will provide day to day operational oversight of a small Strategy team through hands on management and a collaborative, inclusive and team orientated communication style.
Key demonstrated success in the role will be reflected by:
- Effectively advising and supporting the CEO and General Manager on advocacy, strategic positioning, and service development.
- Effectively mentoring and guiding the team and ensuring they have the right resources, systems, training, development and team based cultural environment to achieve desired outcomes for Djirra.
- Astuteness working within complex political environments and within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
This role requires an individual who has successfully managed comparable levels of responsibility within a complex and dynamic environment. A proven ability to work or learn to work with Aboriginal organisations in culturally appropriate ways, as well as mainstream organisations, is vital.
We are seeking an individual who has at least an undergraduate qualification (degree course) in a relevant discipline, however a Master degree is desirable.
We are also seeking someone who has demonstrated ability to work or learn to work with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals in culturally appropriate ways as well as mainstream organisations.
Significant experience in strategic and/or policy roles, preferably directly related to improving law and justice outcomes and increasing access to culturally appropriate legal and associated services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims/survivors of family violence and sexual assault will be looked upon favourably.
